The Wings Club Foundation Announces Carsten Spohr as Its 2024 Distinguished Achievement Award Recipient

**To Be Presented at the 82nd Awards Gala in October

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#aircraft–The Wings Club Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Carsten Spohr, Chief Executive Officer, Deutsche Lufthansa AG will be the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Achievement Award. Acknowledging Mr. Spohr’s outstanding accomplishments in the field of aviation, The Wings Club Foundation will present this award on Oct. 18, 2024, at the 82nd Annual Awards Gala to be held at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York.


Mr. Spohr has served as Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since May 2014. He leads the Lufthansa Group with the business segments Network Airlines, Eurowings, Logistics and MRO with around 100,000 employees worldwide.

After graduating with a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Mr. Spohr obtained a commercial pilot’s license at the Lufthansa Flight Training school in Bremen and Phoenix. As a member of the central junior research group, he then completed the trainee program at Deutsche Aerospace AG, Munich.

In 1994 Mr. Spohr returned to Deutsche Lufthansa and initially took over the management of central personnel marketing. He then served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Executive Board until he assumed responsibility for Lufthansa’s regional partnerships in Europe.

In 2000, Mr. Spohr was appointed head of the alliance management of Deutsche Lufthansa. In this function, he was responsible for the management and coordination of Lufthansa’s worldwide cooperation partners, including the Star Alliance and regional partners.

Mr. Spohr was then appointed to the Executive Board of Lufthansa German Airlines in 2004. His responsibilities included the hub management, cabin crew and personnel management.

In 2007, Mr. Spohr was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo AG. From January 2011, he was a member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Chairman of the Lufthansa German Airlines Executive Board.

Carsten Spohr holds the Lufthansa Captain’s license for the Airbus A320 Family air-craft types. He is married and has two daughters.
