Deliveries of the Volvo EX30 and Volvo EX90 began in the 4th quarter in the US, but now we’re on to 2025 and new prices and details for the 2025 model year vehicles are out.

The EX30 was our 2024 CleanTechnica Car of the Year in Europe, and Volvo Cars actually noted in the press release this week that the model “quickly became one of the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe after it was revealed” there. “Now US customers can purchase the most requested model, the 422 hp EX30 Twin Motor Performance, in Plus or Ultra equipment levels for a starting price of $44,900 (MSRP),” the company added.

“The extended-range Twin Motor Performance variant features all-wheel drive and is the quickest accelerating Volvo ever. With a charging capacity of up to 153 kW the EX30 has a range of 253 miles*. This enables the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in a little over 25 minutes*.”

Regarding the bigger, more expensive EX90, it now has a starting MSRP of $79,995. “Revealed in November 2022, the flagship Volvo EX90 represents a new era of safety for Volvo Cars. The seven-seat luxury SUV further raises the company’s standards in safety and a more sustainable lifestyle. The Volvo EX90 rides on a dedicated electric platform that eliminates the need for luxury car buyers to decide between practicality and full electrification, offering up to 310 miles of tailpipe-emission-free driving range* and the ability to charge from 10-80 percent in about 30 minutes*.” In short, it’s bigger, has more seats (if desired), has more range (if you feel like you need it), and costs almost twice as much.

Volvo EX40 Introduced

In addition to those two models, you’ve now got the Volvo EX40. This is the XC40 Recharge renamed, so that it fits the naming pattern or style of Volvo’s other fully electric models.

“The EX40 Twin Motor variant features an 82 kWh battery, up from 78 kWh. The charge rate for both the Single Motor and Twin Motor variants have been increased to 205kW DC from 200 kW.” That’s a lot of power and a significant battery. Pricing and other details for the 2025 model year haven’t been announced yet. Stay tuned!

The EX40 could really hit the sweet spot for the US market. The EX30 is probably a little small for most American buyers (better suited for European roads and homes), while the EX40 will still offer a much more accessible price point than the EX90. We shall see.

Electric Volvos Deserve More Sales

As noted earlier today, all Volvos in the US get 5-star safety ratings, a notable benefit that probably doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves.

Volvo electric vehicles aren’t tearing up the sales charts in the US, but maybe they will start to do so in 2025. These are certainly high-quality, compelling electric offerings that provide a special level of class.
