$1.5 Million Edison Scholars Program Accepting Applications

STEM students are encouraged to apply for a $50,000 scholarship

ROSEMEAD, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–High school seniors passionate about science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) are encouraged to apply for the Edison scholarship. Today, Edison International opened the application period for its much-celebrated Edison Scholars Program that awards $50,000, paid over four years, to STEM-focused students to pursue their dreams.

Each year, the program awards a total of $1.5 million in scholarships to 30 high school seniors who live in Southern California Edison’s service area. In addition to the $50,000 scholarship, winners are eligible to apply for a paid summer internship with SCE upon completing their first year at an accredited four-year college or university.

“Our clean energy future depends on students who are curious about the world and driven to make a meaningful impact in their communities,” said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International. “I am inspired each year by the creativity, motivation and determination of our Edison Scholars and am confident in their future success. I encourage high school seniors of all backgrounds to apply.”

To be eligible, applicants must live in SCE’s service area and plan to be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in a STEM field, cybersecurity or data analytics. Students also must have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. To apply for a summer internship, scholars must meet the minimum eligibility requirements and complete the required hiring screening. SCE encourages applications from first-generation college students and those from underserved and underrepresented communities. Eligible students can apply at edisonscholars.com through Jan. 23.

Edison International has awarded more than $16.5 million in scholarships to 790 students through the Edison Scholars Program since 2006. Edison International, the parent company of SCE, is one of the largest corporate philanthropic contributors in Southern California. The Edison Scholars Program is funded entirely by Edison International shareholders. SCE customers’ utility bill payments do not fund company donations.
